I’d experienced a taste of this on the tour I did with St. Vincent, where all the brass players were mobile.”On top of cutting cables to let the instrumentalists roam freely about the stage, Byrne hoped to shroud or otherwise hide all amps, monitors, and other gear from sight, leaving the stage “completely clear.”  In a typical theater setting, these items could be shrouded using cloth draping, but this presented an obvious problem for the outdoor shows Byrne is scheduled to play, so his team has been experimenting with a drapery made of lightweight chain instead. Byrne’s intention for the upcoming tour dates is to conduct a live real-world test of the new stage setup.Byrne’s 2018 U.S. mini-tour will kick off on March 3 at New Jersey’s Count Basie Theater, and wrap up on March 10 in Kingston, N.Y. Tickets will go on sale on Dec. 15.  Further details regarding his new solo album – including the title – are still forthcoming.HBO’s ‘David Bowie: The Last Five Years’ Arrives January 2018last_img
