first_imgCurrently on display in the Donegal County Museum in Letterkenny is the National Library of Ireland exhibition, “Gallant Sons – Irishmen and the First World War”.This traveling exhibition created by the National Library of Ireland charts the huge human cost of the First World War, telling the stories of families who were left without a father, brother or son.These moving accounts bring home the reality of the war and tell us a great deal about life in Ireland between 1914 and 1918.Gallant Sons has been specifically written with the history curriculum in mind. Supplementary learning activities and resources have also been compiled for 5th and 6th class students of SPHE. Admission is free and the exhibition runs until early July 2014.To coincide with this exhibition, Donegal County Museum wishes to appeal to borrow objects, stories, photographs, letters, etc relating to Donegal Men and Women’s experiences of the First World War, both at home and on the Front.The County Museum is currently researching and developing a new exhibition on Donegal and the First World War, which will open in September.‘We wish to borrow any items, stories, photographs, etc relating to Donegal Men and Women’s involvement in the First World War and in particular those whose stories may not have been told before. “Our original First War exhibition was in 2001 and it featured a life sized cross section of a First World trench.
