  • Our aircraft are better than yours

first_img“Our aircraft fly higher, faster and further and more efficiently [than the competition].”Boeing’s  SVP of Global Sales and Marketing John Wojick opened the 2016 Farnborough Air Show with this bold statement  that Boeing was better equipped than Airbus to supply the world’s airlines to meet the soaring demand.Mr Wojick answering a question about the success of Airbus’s 230-seat A321 NEO said he was very happy with Boeing’s record backlog of 5740 aircraft worth $424 billion.SEE 787’s AMAZING DEMO FLIGHTHowever, Airbus, is recording record production rates for its 150-230 seat A320 Family and its all new 300-360 seat A350.Boeing’s VP of Marketing, Randy Tinseth, said that Boeing’s forecast demand for 39,620 new aircraft worth $5.9 trillion over the next 20 years, was an increase of 4.1 percent over last year’s forecast.“Despite recent events that have impacted the financial markets, the aviation sector will continue to see long-term growth with the commercial fleet doubling in size,” said Mr Tinseth.“We expect to see passenger traffic grow 4.8 percent a year over the next two decades.”The single-aisle market will be especially strong with low-cost carriers and emerging markets driving growth. He said that 28,140 new airplanes will be needed in this segment, an increase of more than 5 percent over last year.“There’s no question the heart of the single-aisle market is around the new  [186-seat] Boeing MAX 8 and the current 737-800NG. Aircraft of that size already account for 76 percent of the global single-aisle backlog, and our products have the clear advantage in that space.”On the wide body side, 9,100 aircraft are in the forecast, with a large wave of potential replacement demand in the 2021- 2028 time frame. Boeing projects a continued shift from very large aircraft [A380s and 747s] to small and medium wide bodies such as the 787, 777 and 777X.With cargo traffic forecasted to grow at 4.2 percent per year, Boeing projects the need for 930 new freighters and 1,440 converted freighters.AIR TRAFFIC SLOWSAirbus the giant European based multi national, also released its forecast for the 20 years to 2035.It says that passenger traffic will grow at an average 4.5 per cent a year, driving a need for over 33,000 new aircraft above 100 seats worth US$5.2 trillion.By 2035, Airbus says the world’s aircraft fleet will have doubled from today’s 19,500 aircraft to almost 40,000. Some 13,000 passenger and freighter aircraft will be replaced with more fuel efficient types. It says that globally, by 2035, 62 percent of world population will be city dwellers and the number of aviation mega cities will rise from 55 to 93 by 2035.These centres of wealth creation many 47 of which are already schedule constrained airports, will account for 35 percent of world GDP. In 20 years the number of daily long haul passengers travelling to, from, or via aviation mega cities, will more than double to 2.5 million.Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers John Leahy said that “while established European and North American markets continue to grow, Asia-Pacific is the engine powering growth in the next 20 years. China will soon be the world’s biggest aviation market and together with emerging economies, further population concentration, and wealth creation, together these will help to fuel strong air traffic growth.”“We are ramping up production to meet market demand for our leading aircraft products and we will also ramp up our customer service offerings to meet the increasing demands of air transportation.”In the wide body market, Airbus forecasts a trend towards higher capacity aircraft and forecasts a requirement for over 9,500 wide body passenger and freighter aircraft over the next 20 years valued at some US$2.8 trillion. This represents 29 per cent of all new aircraft deliveries and 54 per cent by value. Most wide body deliveries (46 per cent) will be in the Asia Pacific region. In this segment says Mr Leahy, Airbus’ A330, A330neo, A350 XWB and the A380 offer the most comprehensive wide body product range between 200 and above 600 seatsIn the single aisle market, where the A320 Family and the latest generation A320neo Family are firmly established as the global market leaders, Airbus forecasts a need for over 23,500 new aircraft worth US$2.4 trillion.last_img read more

  • LG V30+ with 6-inch FullVision display, 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC & dual cameras launched at Rs 44,990

first_imgLG finally launched its high-end V30+ flagship phone in India on Wednesday at a price of Rs 44,990. The V30+, which is successor to last year’s audio-centric V20, comes with an unusual 18:9 FullVision display – instead of a regular 16:9. This means that the V30+ is not just an audio-centric phone, it is video-centric as well. Apart from this, the newest flagship also boasts of a dual rear camera setup and 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC as well. The USP of the V30+, according to LG, is its big bezel-less display. The phone comes with ridiculously slim bezels allowing the display to take up over 80 per cent of its front side: a concept also seen in Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 and Apple’s iPhone X. LG has so far stayed clear of using an OLED panel (not strictly though as the forgettable G Flex 2 did house one) but all this changes with the V30+. The V30+ is LG’s first true flagship phone, in a long time, to come with a curved OLED — called Full Vision by the company — display which is also HDR 10-ready. The V30+ is also compatible with Google’s Daydream virtual reality platform. The LG V30+ is launching with Android 7.1.2 Nougat but it’s in line to get Android Oreo in the days to come although there’s still no definite time-line.Specs, features and everything to knowMoving on, the LG V30+ has a 6-inch QHD+ 18:9 Full Vision display with a 2880×1400 pixel resolution, which roughly translates to 538ppi and this when combined with LG’s Android 7.1.2 Nougat-based UX software will allow users to run apps in two perfectly square windows side-by-side. The feature, which seems to be a gradual progression of Android 7.0’s split-screen multitasking capabilities, has been extended to the camera software as well.advertisementSpeaking of the camera, the LG V30+ comes with a dual camera system on the rear, consisting of one 16-megapixel standard angle (f/1.6 aperture) and one 13-megapixel 120 degrees wide angle (f/1.9 aperture) lens. LG is touting the V30+’ rear camera system as the world’s first camera system to ship with an aperture of f/1.6 which should technically entail in outstanding low light photography. In addition, the dual camera system on-board the V30+ uses crystal clear glass lens instead of plastic and that should also aid in better photos, according to LG.A specialised feature of the V30+’ manual mode is Graphy, something that allows users to apply the same ‘style and mood’ of a chosen professional photo to their own. Also Read: LG V30 with 6-inch OLED screen, 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC & dual cameras launched at IFAThe V30+ dual camera system has been built not only to take outstanding still photos, it has also been designed to shoot pro-level videos. The V30+, to begin with, can shoot 4K videos at 30fps in log format. The V30+, in addition, comes with as many as 15 different color grading presets to add a cinematic look to videos, and a specialized mode called Point Zoom that allows zooming into any selected area within the frame while recording. On the front, the V30+ sports a 5-megapixel camera with a “wide” 90-degree field of view and f/2.2 aperture. On the inside, the LG V30+ is powered by a top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. It comes with 128GB of internal storage which is further expandable via a micro-SD card slot. The phone is backed by a 3,300mAh battery with support for both fast and wireless charging.Unlike its predecessor, the V30+ dumps LG’s trademark secondary ticker screen for a floating bar feature that can be customized to fit up to five apps for easy access. There’s an always-on display feature and a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC for immersive audio. The V30+ also supports Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) technology for high-resolution audio streaming. On the outside, the V30+ comes with a ‘minimalist’ design consisting of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 (Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on camera) and metal, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Additionally, the V30+ is also dust and water resistant — IP68-certified — as also MIL-STD-810G certified so it can technically survive harsh environment. The V30+, in addition to a fingerprint scanner, also includes facial and voice recognition technology for added security.Price and availabilityThe LG V30+ has been launched in India at a price of Rs 44,990 and will be available for buying in as many as four colours from December 18 exclusively from Amazon India. Pre-booking is now live on the e-retail website. LG will be offering one-time screen replacement, and a wireless charger and in-app content (worth Rs 6,400) for free with the V30+, the company has announced.advertisementlast_img read more

first_imgAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say Hughton insists Brighton didn’t deserve Bournemouth defeatby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveBrighton boss Chris Hughton insists they didn’t deserve defeat at Bournemouth. The Seagulls were beaten 2-0 after David Brooks found the back of the net for the Cherries either side of half-time.Hughton said, “I thought we were good value to get something from the game. The difference between the two sides was they put their opportunities away and we didn’t.“We were good in the first half and they scored against the run of play. It was very difficult towards the end when we were down to ten men, but certainly before that I thought we were always in the game.“It was a wonderful strike by Brooks for the first goal, but I thought we created really good chances of our own.“If you don’t put your chances away, then you know that a very good Bournemouth side that play with a lot of pace, with two players up front that run in behind, are going to cause you problems.“The chances are the pinnacle moments of any game, but on the balance of play, I thought we deserved more.”On Lewis Dunk’s dismissal, he added: “Initially we had no problems with it, we thought it was two yellow cards, but seeing them again, we feel that [Yves] Bissouma made the first contact, so there’s some doubt about who should have been booked.” last_img read more

  • Backing players has worked for us Ricky Ponting

first_imgNew Delhi: With his team placed comfortably at the second spot in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting believes that keeping the faith in his players has helped the team in finding the form at this crucial juncture of the competition. The 44-year-old Australian said: “There have been questions asked about where we should have dropped certain players in some matches, but I believe that when you have talented players in your squad, you just keep backing them. You know that we have players who can turn it around quite quickly as it takes just one innings or match to get going in a tournament like this.” Also Read – Puducherry on top after 8-wkt win over Chandigarh He added: “In the first phase of the tournament, players like Rishabh (Pant) might have had certain thoughts around his mind about the World Cup selection, but to be honest, that 78* in the first match against Mumbai was what got us the win. “I’m glad he found the form again against RR, and what you want from players like him in such a tournament is that they win you three or four matches each throughout the season, and he has certainly won two games for us so far, and if he remains in form, he can get a couple of more wins.” Also Read – Vijender’s next fight on Nov 22, opponent to be announced later Delhi Capitals sit second on the points table with a tally of 14 points from their 11 matches, which include seven wins and four losses. But Ponting believes that his team is in good form and is peaking at the right time. He said: “We have won the last four out of our five matches, and with three more matches to go, I feel we are going in the right direction. I am happy that the team is peaking at the right time, with better communication amongst the group.” Asked which victory he enjoyed the most, Ponting said that the away win against Hyderabad by 39 runs was the sweetest in terms of turning it around from a losing situation. “I really liked the Hyderabad win because we didn’t do much right in that match but still found a way to win. It was more the way we fought back, probably after their batting powerplay, they batted second and they were 60-0, and the game was starting to slip away but there were some really good signs in that game from our side. “The moments when we have been under pressure the most, that is when we have started to fight, and fight under pressure, and one thing that I’ve tried to say to the boys is that we do not lose the match until the last ball is bowled. “We saw that in our last match against Rajasthan as well. We fought our way back into the match and then registered the win. But out of the seven matches that we have won, I think the Hyderabad win has been the most satisfying,” he added. After the conclusion of a couple of days’ rest, the Delhi Capitals’ squad will re-group on Friday at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium to prepare for their upcoming match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday.last_img read more
