  • Bad managers linked to falling productivity

first_img Previous Article Next Article Comments are closed. Poor management and inadequate planning are two of the main reasons why theUK’s productivity is falling further behind its main economic rivals, researchreveals. A global study by Proudfoot Consulting released this week also finds thatother reasons for poor productivity are: morale, IT problems, poorcommunication and inadequate qualifications. Together these factors account for the loss of 92 out of a total of 225productive working days per company in 2002 across the nine countries surveyed. The UK fares worse than average, with 110 days out of 225 lost, compared toFrance (97), Germany (83) and the US (86). Proudfoot Consulting chairman Kevin Parry said: “Alongside high andstable employment levels, productivity growth is viewed as an important driverof long-term economic performance. “Yet this report shows many British firms are still only working atjust over half their true capacity. This collective underachievement is notonly costing shareholders and the nation dearly, it’s also adversely affectingour global economic competitiveness.” The study also reveals that the nation’s poor productivity record isestimated to be depriving the Treasury of more than £111bn in lost revenue. Entitled Untapped Potential – a global study of the barriers to optimumcorporate productivity, the study is thought to be unique, as it is based ondata from the micro-economic perspective of a single business unit or company. It comprises of 1,357 analyses of companies, plus an opinion poll of 2,700chief executives. Nicholas Crafts, professor of economic history at the London School ofEconomics, said: “At individual business level, poor management is costingshareholders in a big way.” www.proudfootconsulting.com Bad managers linked to falling productivityOn 8 Oct 2002 in Personnel Today Related posts:No related photos.last_img read more

  • MABS WAITING LISTS ARE ‘DISGRACE’, SAYS DONEGAL TD

first_imgPadraig Mac LochlainnDonegal North East Sinn Féin TD, Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has described confirmation that the North Donegal Money Advice Budgeting Service (MABS) has an average waiting time of 20 weeks, five times the state average of four weeks, as “shocking”.He called on Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton to ensure that additional resources are deployed to North Donegal MABs as a matter of urgency. The waiting times for North Donegal MABS are the highest of all 51 MABs offices across the state. North Donegal MABS also has the highest number of number of people awaiting their first appointment at 160. Deputy Mac Lochlainn said: “This shocking confirmation from the Minister is in response to a parliamentary question from my colleague; Deputy Pearse Doherty needs to be urgently addressed.“It is clear that North Donegal MABS have not got the necessary resources and staff numbers to meet the demand from families in debt across North Donegal.“It confirms the worst fears of my party members. Recently, my colleagues, Cllrs Mick Quinn and Gerry McMonagle highlighted the debt crisis in Donegal and called on families in debt to seek advice and assistance from organisations like MABS before they engage with banks. These waiting times may force families under pressure from banks to agree to unsustainable and unfair debt repayment agreements. This is totally unacceptable.“I will be making representations to the Minister to deploy additional resources and I will be monitoring these waiting times closely over the time ahead”  MABS WAITING LISTS ARE ‘DISGRACE’, SAYS DONEGAL TD was last modified: July 17th, 2013 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:MABS WAITING LISTS ARE ‘DISGRACE’SAYS DONEGAL TDlast_img read more

  • Abhays plea to transfer assets case to another judge opposed

first_imgNew Delhi: The Delhi High Court Registrar General on Thursday objected to a plea of Abhay Singh Chautala, son of former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala, seeking transfer of a disproportionate assets (DA) case against him to some other judge. The registrar general informed the Delhi High Court that the DA case involving Abhay is pending before a special judge who was designated by the high court to deal with cases pertaining to MPs and MLAs on orders of the Supreme Court. Also Read – How a psychopath killer hid behind the mask of a devout laity!Abhay has claimed that he apprehends he would not get a fair trial if his case continues to be presided over by the special judge. Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal was informed by advocate Viraj Datar, representing the high court’s administration, that if the court decides to transfer the case, another judge would have to be designated to specially deal with it. “It (Filing of plea) has been done to overcome the sessions court,” Datar said. The counsel said the court to deal with the matters of involving MPs/ MLAs was set up by a special notification and there is only one judge each at sessions court and magisterial court to hear them. Also Read – Encounter under way in Pulwama, militant killedOn being asked whether the district judge concerned would be able to deal with the transfer application, Datar said the district judge will not have the power to do it as the special court was set up by the high court on the administrative side on the orders of the apex court. The court asked the counsel to seek further instructions from the registrar general on the issue and listed the matter for hearing on March 18. The court had on Wednesday issued notice to the CBI and the registrar general on the petition. The high court, in its Wednesday order, had also said that since the DA case was listed before the special CBI judge on Thursday, both Abhay and the agency “shall seek joint adjournment”. Advocate Amit Sahni, appearing for Abhay, had told the high court that it was within its inherent power to transfer the DA case from one special court to another. Special public prosecutor Rajdipa Behura, appearing for the CBI, had contended that the transfer petition “was a total abuse of process of law and has only been moved to delay the trial”. Abhay has said the DA case be withdrawn from the special CBI judge hearing it presently and be assigned to someone else. The petition has also sought calling of the case records, claiming that it would allegedly reveal deliberate deletion of the deposition of one of the prosecution witnesses. The CBI had lodged the DA case against Abhay on a complaint of Congress leader Shamsher Singh Surjewala. Surjewala had alleged that Abhay had amassed wealth worth several times more than his income. According to the CBI, Abhay owned assets worth over five times his income of Rs 22.89 crore as per income tax records during the 2000-2005 period. It has claimed to have found Rs 119.69 crore worth of assets. The CBI had also alleged that he possessed assets exceeding his legal income by 339.27 per cent. His legal income between May 1993 and May 2006 was Rs 8.17 crore, but had acquired assets worth Rs 27.7 crore, it had alleged before the trial court.last_img read more

  • Warehouse blaze Continuous negligence of fire safety norms led to Ggn tragedy

first_imgGurugram: Sunday’s tragedy where two people died and five people were grievously injured because of the explosion at the warehouse could have been avoided if the caution was heeded earlier by the owners of the warehouse.According to the workers, an incident of fire had happened earlier too but the fire was doused by the workers. As was the case on Sunday the main reason for the fire was also the reaction of a huge amount of explosives that were being unloaded. Despite the dangers involved, the owner of Lucky Kataria warehouse continued to put the safety of workers at risk by giving them incentives to load explosive devices in their vehicles. According to sources, there were 75 kilograms of crackers along with nitrogen laden spray stuffed in only one auto. • EC completely biased against Oppn Rahul

first_imgNew Delhi: In a scathing criticism of the Election Commission (EC), Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said when it comes to matters related to the opposition, the poll watchdog is “completely biased”.His remarks come in the wake of clean chits given by the EC to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah on various complaints of Model Code of Conduct violations. Asked about questions being raised over the EC’s impartiality, Gandhi, at a press conference here, said, “When it comes to issues of the BJP, the EC is absolutely on the straight line, when it comes to the opposition’s issues, it is completely biased.” Also Read – 2019 most peaceful festive season for J&K: Jitendra SinghThe working style of Modi, the ruling BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is to put pressure on institutions, he alleged. “This is evident everywhere — SC, EC, Planning Commission, RBI. That is their approach. We do not expect that the EC will not be affected by that pressure,” Gandhi said. However, he asserted that the EC has to commit to its responsibility and carry it out. “All this institutional capture that is taking place and all the negative effects of it will have consequences in the future. We are not going to allow Indian institutions to be disturbed, controlled, crushed and anybody who colludes, anybody who falls to this pressure, is committing a crime,” the Congress chief said. Also Read – Personal life needs to be respected: Cong on reports of Rahul’s visit abroadThe EC concluded on Friday that Modi did not violate the model code or its advisory on the armed forces in his campaign speech in Varanasi. The poll panel also found nothing wrong in the prime minister’s comments made in Maharashtra’s Nanded, where he reportedly dubbed the Congress as a “sinking Titanic”. With this, the EC has decided on five complaints against Modi and gave him a clean chit in all the matters. The poll watchdog has also given a clean chit to Shah over his speeches at Maharashtra’s Nagpur and West Bengal’s Nadia. Citing his speech at Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh on April 23, the commission had, on May 1, issued a show-cause notice to Gandhi highlighting a provision of the Model Code of Conduct that barred “unverified” allegations against political opponents. Earlier, the EC had held that Gandhi had not violated the Model Code of Conduct during another campaign speech in Madhya Pradesh.last_img read more
