  • Bye bye Blues! Five players who should leave Chelsea this summer

first_img 3. Nathaniel Chalobah – click right to see which winger would benefit from guaranteed first team action – Chalobah showed plenty of promise in his early years, particularly whilst on loan at Watford, but his career appears to have plateaued. He had brief spells with Burnley, in which he made just four appearances, and Reading last season, but failed to really grasp either opportunity. Gareth Southgate stuck with him during England’s disastrous European Under-21 Championship campaign but he frequently looked bereft of composure in key areas. Loftus-Cheek’s assimilation into the first team at the back end of last season could be a sign that Chalobah may be frozen out by Mourinho 5 5 2. John Obi Mikel – continue to find out which academy product may find chances hard to come by – Chelsea’s second longest serving player behind captain John Terry after Petr Cech’s recent depature, Mikel is often made a scapegoat when Chelsea come up short in games. That is if he plays, of course. The arrival of Nemanja Matic and the emergence of Ruben Loftus-Cheek has seen the Nigerian fall further and further down the pecking order in recent seasons and he frequently looks out of depth. Mourinho still has a lot of faith in the combative midfielder, but he has reportedly been in talks with Besiktas this summer over a possible move. 4. Victor Moses – continue to see which winger is wanted by a host of clubs on the continent – Yes, he’s still there! And if recent rumours have anything to go by, Mourinho reportedly wants Moses as a key figure of his first-team plans this season. While Moses impressed for Stoke on loan in the last campaign, he looked abject with Liverpool in the previous season as his attitude came under scrutiny. The winger is effective when given a run of games but his focus seems to drift when he is utilised as more of an impact player from the bench. With the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian ahead of him, surely that will be the case again in 2015/2016? 1. Filipe Luis – click right to see which long-serving midfielder could be on his way – Signed for £15.8m last summer, Luis has been unfortunate in his brief Chelsea career so far in that Cesar Azpilicueta has got better and better over the last few years. When he has played, he hasn’t really done a lot wrong, but Mourinho favours a right-footed player on the left side of defence, which has rendered Luis a squad filler. A mooted move back to Atletico Madrid seems likely in the coming weeks. 5 5. Mohamed Salah – Salah is a class act, just apparently not in the Premier League. In his brief spell with the Blues in the season before last, he looked lightweight in a much stronger league than he was accustomed to, yet flourished for Fiorentina last year. Like Moses, he will struggle to break the attacking midfield triumvirate behind Diego Costa, and it appears half of Serie A are desperately vying for his services. A complex legal battle, however, could mean his Stamford Bridge exit drags on for longer than anticipated. The transfer window is firmly wedged open which means clubs are busy carrying out their business as they prepare for the coming Premier League season. While supporters invariably focus on players on their way into their club, others may have to be relinquished to balance the books. Some players have fallen out of favour, while others may just need a change of scenery to help rejuvenate their careers.Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea may have cantered to the title last season, but the Blues manager will be keen to guard against complacency by keeping his squad at full strength.Radamel Falcao and Asmir Begovic have already made their Stamford Bridge moves this season, but who is the deadwood that needs shifting?talkSPORT has looked at five Blues players who either need to be sold or should look elsewhere for first-team action.Click the yellow arrow above, right, to see which players have made our shortlist. 5 5last_img read more
